FAQ's

PRESCRIPTIONS and REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

Regarding prescriptions  and repeat prescriptions, such prescriptions will be given only with prior authorisation (may we therefore request at least 48-hour's notice for this, to get authorization from the case veterinary surgeon) and regular checks as advised by our Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons will be necessary for your pet at intervals specific to the underlying condition. Collection of the prescription or posting if more convenient can be done during our Reception opening hours. At the time of your initial request or at such a collection, we will advise you of the need for a new pre-prescription appointment to check the need and efficacy of the medicine and any new replacement. Owing to limits on storage, we will arrange for next-day delivery of larger sizes of diets, and prescription medicines.

VACCINATION

The preventative medicine and surgery practised here will always include one very thorough health check at the booster vaccination, which is essential each and every year following puppy (from 8 weeks) and kitten (from 9 weeks) vaccination courses and for rabbits from 6 weeks. Homoeopathic nosodes are also available. It is our aim to provide you with not only an annual booster reminder system for your cat, dog, rabbit and ferret, but also a complimentary six month intermediate health check through the Veterinary Nurse/ Pet Health Counsellor clinic schemes ...a very exciting and popular way to keep the finger on the pulse of your pet's health, from growing puppies and kittens through to our mature pet clinics

HOUSE CALLS

Sadly, due to restrictions placed on us by lone worker regulations, house calls will not be possible if a second staff member cannot also be present. However, we wish you to understand that many more facilities, including extra Staff help and special equipment, medicines and oxygen exist back at the Surgery. This is something that is not possible on such visits to your home especially when special medical or surgical problems are present. We can break off what we are doing in order to examine emergency problems as soon as they come in rather than waiting for any two free clinical staff  to leave the Surgery ...which may make it a less satisfactory service for your pet and for our Staff! We do appreciate, however, that in certain very special circumstances only, such visits will be part of an essential service for your pet so please discuss your requirements beforehand with Reception.

TERMS OF BUSINESS

Our Terms of Business are for every payment to be made at the time of consultation, collection of prescription or food/pet accessories and at the post-operation discharge of your pet. This can be via cash, a cheque supported by its guarantee card, or by credit/debit card (payment over the telephone is therefore possible when ordering food, or booking a Cattery pen). We are obliged to charge VAT (Value Added Tax) on services rendered. In order to continue to offer our ever-expanding and higher standards of clinical care for your pet, we request prompt payment and therefore regret that we do not set up accounts. Over a current floor-limit of £115, we are prepared to complete pet insurance forms and to be paid directly by the insurer. Due to current FSA regulations, we are only able to discuss PetPlan insurance with clients.

Un-insured and unexpected illnesses or injuries that incur large fees of course can be discussed with our Practice Manager, when there is genuine financial hardship, in order to set up an immediate repayment schedule  in addition to the client’s obligation to be directed to external charitable aid, payable to the Practice after an agreed invoiced sum has been agreed with the charity concerned. Once such a schedule has been agreed and put on record, we expect it to be adhered to, for the sake of all our other clients.

INSURANCE

To enable you to budget for future possible problems, Reception staff will be happy to discuss PET PLAN INSURANCE for your pet with you, drawing on their training under the FSA in this area. We are not able to give you anything other than general advice for

another insurance product or company.

Pet Plan is a leading member of the General Insurance Council. We neither seek nor ever get commission from such policies: together we simply achieve the ability to get on with the work required. Pre-claim authorisation is also possible for already insured pets.

PetPlan brochures are available at Reception. Fees charged at all times, insured or not, will be no greater than that required to cover our many overheads, government regulations, on-going Staff training, and Health and Safety/COSHH, and licensing obligations and expenses, in order to provide you with the full range of services in the future for your companion and pet, at the times that are convenient or necessary for you.
